Payroll Team Lead

Agilus is recruiting for a Payroll Team Lead in the Oil and Gas Industry in Calgary, Alberta.
The Team Lead, Payroll oversees payroll operations for Canadian and U.S. employees, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance. This role provides leadership, collaborates across teams, and drives ongoing improvements in payroll systems and processes.

A typical day:
  • Lead, coach, and support payroll team members, setting goals, monitoring KPIs, and ensuring cross-training and current documentation
  • Oversee end-to-end Canadian and U.S. payroll processing, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely remittances
  • Maintain compliant schedules, controls, audits, and reconciliations while staying updated on legislative changes
  • Identify and implement payroll process and system improvements across platforms such as ADP, GNA, and ServiceNow
  • Troubleshoot payroll and HR data issues and lead projects, including system upgrades, process enhancements, and policy changes
  • Serve as the main contact for internal/external payroll audits and collaborate with HR, Finance, and operations.
  • Provide payroll data and reports for budgeting, WCB, vacation/overtime tracking, and dashboards
  • Oversee vacation tracking, taxable benefits, liability reporting, and maintain payroll/IT controls to ensure secure, compliant data handling

The successful candidate brings:
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred)
  • Minimum 10 years of payroll experience, including 3+ years in a supervisory or team lead role
  • Payroll or HR designation required
  • Expertise in full-cycle Canadian payroll; U.S. payroll experience is an asset
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, compliance, and year-end processes
  • Advanced proficiency with ERP systems, HRIS platforms, ServiceNow workflows, and IT interfaces related to HR data, onboarding, and offboarding
  • ADP is priority, would be a great asset if they have that.. but open to other payroll software experience.
  • High-level Excel skills and the ability to create training and orientation materials using PowerPoint
