Project Accounting Advisor

Agilus by Synergie is recruiting for a Project Accounting Advisor in the city of in North York, Ontario.
Our client is seeking an experienced accounting professional to support capital asset and project accounting activities within a large, complex organization. This role combines month-end accounting, capital project support, financial analysis, audit compliance, and process improvement, while partnering with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure accurate financial reporting and capitalization of assets.
A typical day:

Execute month-end close activities including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, cost transfers, and financial reporting for capital projects and assets
Support project accounting processes from project setup and cost tracking through capitalization and project closeout
Investigate and resolve complex accounting issues, balance variances, and transaction exceptions while ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal controls
Assist with AFUDC/IDC calculations, CWIP analysis, capital reporting, depreciation, asset transfers, and fixed asset accounting activities
Support audits, SOX compliance, process documentation, controls testing, and continuous improvement initiatives
Partner with Accounting, Fixed Assets, Capital Management, FP&A, Tax, Regulatory, and project stakeholders, while providing guidance and support to junior team members and analysts

Successful candidates will have:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline
5+ years of accounting experience with exposure to project accounting, capital assets, fixed assets, or construction accounting
Strong knowledge of month-end close processes, reconciliations, accruals, and financial reporting
Advanced Excel skills and experience with large ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle
CPA designation/candidacy and utility industry experience considered strong assets

Total rewards:

$43.00 - $50.00 hourly
12 Month Contract: September 1, 2026 - August 31, 2027
Location: North York, ON

Work Model: Hybrid - 3 days on site, 2 days WFH
