Agilus is recruiting for a Mechanical Engineer in the HVAC manufacturing industry in Edmonton, Alberta.
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and testing mechanical components, machinery, and equipment using applied knowledge of engineering principles. This may include fabricating, operating, installing, or repairing design products such as motors, instruments, control panels, and other machines. This is an opportunity to work for a leader supporting major projects in the hyperscale data centre sector internationally.

A typical day:
  • Provide technical design support to the engineering department with specific focus on mechanical design engineering
  • Design, develop, manufacture and test machines such as motors, tools, instruments, and other mechanical devices
  • Design and develop HVAC equipment with components such as chilled water coils, heat exchangers, humidifiers, gas furnaces, and DX systems
  • Review, evaluate, and improve upon engineering schematics and specifications prepared by consultants, ensuring designs are safe, efficient, effective, and practical
  • Conduct final inspection and recommend acceptance, improvements, or rejection of completed designs
  • Create and implement standard specification languages and procedures for mechanical engineering projects and Improve operations, reduce turnaround times, and optimize processes to provide seamless quality of engineering services
  • Verify and validate engineering designs by testing protocols and analyzing statistical data and Act as project manager on mechanical engineering projects
  • Assist with the development of project plans, project costing, and coordinating the efforts of other engineers, technicians, designers, and drafters to support cross-functional collaboration and Evaluate various mechanical products under consideration for purchase to determine their efficiency and cost-effectiveness

Successful candidates will have:
  • Mechanical Engineering degree (BSc. Eng., B.Eng.), and Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) designation
  • Five or more years of related experience and 3+ years of related experience in HVAC design required, including knowledge in equipment and system selection, design, and control. Additional experience in metal fabrication and/or manufacturing is an asset
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and other 3-D imaging software is essential
  • Ability to integrate new technologies into machines, and Experience designing man-machine interfaces
  • Competence in designing according to ISO 9001 standards and Working knowledge of risk analysis and relevant legislative compliance
  • Proven track record in managing large project budgets and Ability to identify key financial performance indicators and their relationship with project indicators
  • Practical experience with risk management, product testing, capability studies, and control plans
  • Training and knowledge of Six Sigma techniques, Kaizen, and Lean Manufacturing are desirable
