Optical Systems Engineer

If so, we want to hear from you. Agilus is sourcing skilled and experienced senior system engineers for a long term contract role in Kanata.

How you will spend your day:
• Research and development and conceptual activities relating to optical and science instrumentation 
• Analysis and modeling of system performance 
• System requirements analysis, functional/capability analysis, synthesis, and test definition
• Systems engineering documentation preparation and maintenance 
• Coordinating activities between multi-disciplinary design teams 
• Technical interactions with customers and subcontractors 
• Leading design reviews 

 Your day will be divided into:
  • 50% Systems Design & Analysis 
  • 15% Requirements Management 
  • 10% Customer Interaction 
  • 10% Project Oversight 
  • 15% Model Based Development 
What you bring to our client:
  • You  must have or be eligible for Controlled Goods Clearance
  • Bachelors degree or higher in Engineering or Applied Science 
  •  Optical and/or electro-optical engineering experience 
  • Advanced degree in engineering or applied science 
  • Electrical system design experience is highly valued 
  • Experience with electro-optical design aspects such as radiometric analysis, detector performance, thermal infrared systems design, and stray light analysis 
  •  The demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with engineers, scientists, and technicians from multiple disciplines 
  • Numerical simulation skills and fluency with mathematical or system modeling tools (e.g. MATLAB, Python)  Experience with requirements management software (e.g. DOORS) 
  • Knowledge of systems development lifecycle

• An understanding of optical design and test methods and familiarity with optical design software 
• A good grasp of optical, mechanical, electrical, and software elements and their interactions within complex systems 
• Experience in optical communications systems development is also desired but not required, including: 
o A background in communication theory, signal processing, and/or control systems, with a strong understanding of practical system performance limitations 
o Familiarity with optical communications standards and protocols, and existing optical communications system implementations including both optical and electrical subsystems 
o Understanding of environmental factors involved in space-based-communication systems, including satellite orbits, atmospheric absorptions, scintillations, and their potential impacts on communications links 
o Experience with free-space optical communication system design
