Waste Advisor II

Agilus by Synergie is recruiting for a Waste Advisor II in the Oil and Gas Sector in Calgary, Alberta. High Level Role Description As a member of the Sustainability Team, you will provide Waste and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) subject matter expertise (SME) to Canadian upstream and downstream assets. Waste disposal and storage require extensive waste knowledge and many directives/regulations across multiple provinces. Knowledge supports operational waste management, identifying improvement opportunities and maintaining regulatory compliance. Total rewards:- $93.00 hourly
- 1 year contract position
- 5 days on / 2 days off
- Location Preferred: Imperial Calgary Office (Quarry Park), would consider Edmonton or Cold Lake office locations
A typical day:- Providing technical and regulatory guidance on waste related matters to Site Sustainability and Operations Teams, Primary technical contact for waste approvals and amendments. Responsible for submitting regulatory reports, as required under approval and permit or as requested by regulatory, Maintain waste management plan for assets; support site teams in execution.
- Stewardship of waste management key performance indicators (KPI’s), Provide technical input to Procurement Team for any waste contracts, Advocacy with external committees (i.e. CAPP), engage with communities.
- Maintains relationship with third party Waste receivers, Lead sites waste initiatives and improvement opportunities, Drive improvements to waste management system and tools (i.e. electronic manifesting), Administrator for electronic manifesting system, provide manifesting support to sites.
- Travel to sites, as necessary for regulatory inspections and site support, Manage Waste Facility Risk Assessment (WFRA) program for Canada – annual review of required facilities for Canada, Annual confirmation of compliance with internal approved waste site list. Support internal audit to maintain approved list of receivers, If additional facilities are needed, work with Waste Technical experts to schedule an audit to add facility to approved waste list.
- Advise business units, projects, and operations on methods for reducing waste generation, waste storage, waste reuse, recycling, waste treatment and disposal, third party waste facility inspection requirements, safe and environmentally protective handling procedures for hazardous waste and/or chemicals, and advocate for reasonable waste management and or chemical handling regulatory and other requirements.
- Drive site hazardous waste reduction initiatives, e.g. BIOX sludge, spent caustic, LPO/HPO, Implement and support waste regulatory change management, Develop and support turnaround environmental management plans, Coordinate spent catalyst exports. Opportunity to drive work process improvement internally, Manage new/modified Waste Permits per EAG SOP 06-03 Permits, Compliance Tracking.
Successful candidates will have:- 5+ yrs experience, extensive waste experience will out weigh any university degree
- Providing technical and regulatory guidance on TDG related matters to Site Sustainability and Operations Teams, Advocacy with external committees (CAPP), engagement with communities, Emergency Response Assistance Plans (ERAP) management, Engagement with Emergency Response Assistance Canada and consultant to ensure ERAPs are up to date.
- Arrange for yearly training Site Technical Advisors, 3rd Party emergency responders, Advisor role for Sites and the movements of TDG, If required, Truck and Rail Field compliance inspections / surveys – Site Advisors to complete the inspection / survey’s based on checklist and guidance provided by Waste Advisor.
- Participate in CAPP Meetings – Meet 4x annually (virtual option available), Yearly submission to Client Identification Database (CID), Ensure Equivalency Certificates are up to date and approvals are in place.
- Third Party Waste Receivers: External Stewardship Committee for Waste (CAPP, CIAC), On-site Waste Manager(s) / onsite waste management companies, India Sustainability Team.
- Key Software/tools used, E-Manifesting Platform for Waste – Galatea, Payload & Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority (RPRA) Hazardous Waste Program (HWP) Registry, Propeller, ECCC - SWIM PORTAL
Reporting obligation WASTE: Internal Annual Waste Reporting due, Annual Waste NPRI Reporting for Upstream and Downstream.
- TDG: Annual CID Registration, ERAP Renewals, Equivalency Certificate Renewals, CANUTEC Registration.
- Integration with India Sustainability Team (IST): Administration of Waste E-Manifesting tool, Galatea, Analysis of annual waste data, preparation of waste metrics for internal and external, Sarnia National Emission Reduction Masterplan (NERM) Report.
