SAGD Drilling Engineer

Agilus is recruiting for a SAGD Drilling Engineer in the Oil and Gas Sector in Calgary, Alberta.
Your primary role is to gather and analyze technical data to provide sound drilling engineering support to SAGD drilling and workover operations, drilling equipment selection, capital projects, and drilling technical services, requiring robust engineering analysis and practical field solutions.

Total rewards:
  • $70.00 - $115.00 hourly
  • Compensation varies based on years of experience and contractor operating status.
  • In office, Calgary based position.
  • Long term contract, no firm end date, potential to transition to a permanent position.

A typical day:
  • Develop and apply sound SAGD drilling engineering methods, standards, and procedures to address assigned drilling challenges.
  • Execute engineering assignments and technical studies in support of all phases of SAGD drilling operations, including: Horizontal wellbore placement and trajectory design, Pad drilling optimization, penetration rate optimization in unconsolidated formations, thermal well design considerations and well integrity.
  • Provide technical assistance and engineering advice to operations teams on complex SAGD drilling and workover issues.
  • Prepare detailed work scopes and lead or support the development of technical proposals, engineering studies, and drilling programs for SAGD projects.
  • Analyze drilling performance data, equipment performance, and emerging drilling technologies to identify improvement opportunities, cost reductions, and operational efficiencies while ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement by evaluating new drilling tools, practices, and technologies applicable to SAGD developments.

Successful candidates will have:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum, Mechanical, Chemical, or related Engineering discipline from an accredited university.
  • A minimum of 5 years of drilling engineering or field experience, with a strong preference for SAGD or heavy oil thermal operations.
  • Professional Engineer designation, registered with APEGA.
