AI Development Engineer (Contract) – Build Enterprise-Scale GenAI & Agentic Systems in Calgary
Agilus by Synergie is recruiting for a Contract AI Development Engineer in the Energy / Technology / Artificial Intelligence in Calgary, Alberta.

This role offers hands-on ownership of end-to-end AI product development, using modern GenAI tools, agentic systems, and enterprise data. Ideal for senior engineers who thrive in ambiguity and want to turn complex challenges into scalable, production-ready systems.
Total rewards:

$80.00 - $95.00 hourly
Work on real AI products deployed across the business
Gain hands-on experience with modern GenAI tools and architectures
Own full lifecycle delivery from concept to production
Collaborate directly with business leaders and domain experts
Operate in a fast-moving, low-bureaucracy environment
Preferred rates for benefit coverage available
Weekly pay including 4% vacation pay

A typical day:

Design and build AI-native, full-stack production systems
Deliver end-to-end solutions from ideation to continuous improvement
Translate business challenges into scalable software applications
Develop agentic systems integrating APIs, data pipelines, and AI models
Build AI-ready infrastructure including knowledge layers and semantic models
Integrate and optimise foundation models for evolving use cases
Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure practical, high-value outcomes
Mentor peers and guide best practices in AI development

Successful candidates will have:

Bring 8+ years of professional software engineering experience
Demonstrate strong system design and architecture expertise
Show proven ability to work with business stakeholders
Exhibit experience building production-grade applications
Possess familiarity with AI, GenAI, or agent-based systems
Thrive in ambiguous, fast-paced environments
Hold legal authorisation to work in Canada
Have a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent
