Senior Technical Accounting Advisor

We’re seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Senior Financial Analyst, Technical Accounting, to join our Client's dynamic Corporate Finance team.
Agilus is recruiting for a Specialist, Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting in the Oil and Gas Industry in Calgary, Alberta.
This role is ideal for a CPA-designated professional with deep IFRS expertise and a passion for technical accounting, policy development, and cross-functional collaboration. As a key member of the Technical Accounting Team, you’ll work closely with finance teams across all business segments, contribute to financial reporting, and support strategic initiatives, including acquisitions and process improvements.
A typical day:

Support the Manager in developing and implementing company-wide accounting policies
Perform detailed technical accounting reviews of significant contracts
Researching new accounting standards, determining how they are applicable to the company and drafting the policy papers
Collaborate with the Financial Reporting team to support the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements, Management Discussion & Analysis (MD&A), and Audit Committee memos outlining key accounting positions
Conduct research, analysis, and investigation of financial data for inclusion in financial statements and MD&A, coordinating with divisional teams to gather necessary information
Complete and maintain the IFRS disclosure checklist to ensure all reporting requirements are met.
Own and maintain relevant internal controls as required.
Partnering with divisional finance teams to resolve accounting issues

Successful candidates will have:

Minimum of 8+ years of relevant experience working in a public accounting firm within auditing or advisory roles or public companies (preferred but open to other industries)
CPA or equivalent
Strong understanding of financial statement close processes and accounting matters applicable to public companies
Strong technical knowledge base and experience with IFRS accounting
Must be comfortable working with large volumes of data using advanced Excel functions
Experience with JD Edwards Enterprise One ERP, SAP and OneStream Corporate Performance Management is an asset
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
Excellent accounting analysis and problem-solving skills

Total rewards:

Six-months contract position (high chance of extension)
Start date: Nov 2025
Monday to Friday in office
